The Essex Bhoys reserves won their 4th round tie against Essex Alliance League Senior Division opponents Lymore Gardens FC with a 4-3 penalty shootout win. With the score at 4-4 after a pulsating 90 minutes and extra time, with goals from Mike Clark (3) and Zac Wing, only penalties could separate the sides.
United's penalties, scored by Mike Clark, Matt Wilson, Tobias DeSouza, and Matt Creevy, Lymore Gardens failed to convert from the spot to the delight of manager Eamonn Kearney.
Kearney stated after the game "I am so proud of the team’s performance as we progress in the Essex Premier Cup. Today saw an engaging and inspired effort, where we united together as a team; we showed character and resilience and came from behind three times before the shootout. We kept our composure in a game which was between two fairly matched teams. This was an excellent advert for the Essex Premier Cup."
He continued "Catholic United need to be in the latter stages of the Premier Cup every season. On paper, we may be the underdogs in next round but these are the current issues that we need to deal with in the in the 2025 Premier Cup. This group of players are continuing to grow together."
